Where Sweeps Casinos Are Legal
The state-by-state picture, updated after California’s AB 831 ban took effect in January 2026.
The Four Blocked States
Washington
The strictest online gaming laws in the country. Sweeps casinos have excluded WA players for years.
Nevada
The commercial casino industry’s home state keeps sweeps models out to protect licensed operators.
Idaho
Broad anti-gambling statutes leave no room for the sweepstakes framework. Operators block Idaho by default.
California
The newest exit. AB 831 banned sweepstakes casinos statewide, effective January 2026, and every major operator has now withdrawn.
Everywhere Else
In the remaining states, sweepstakes casinos operate under standard promotional sweepstakes law and are broadly available. A handful of operators voluntarily skip extra states (New York, Florida and Michigan appear on some exclusion lists), so always check the operator’s own terms for your state before creating an account.
Also note age rules: 18+ is the floor everywhere, and several states or operators require 21+.
How To Stay On The Right Side
Check The Terms
Every operator lists eligible states in its sweepstakes rules. Two minutes of reading settles it.
Never Use A VPN
Masking your location violates the rules and will void your winnings at redemption time, when it hurts most.
